iOS 6.1 brings 4G to iPhone 5 in South Africa

A new update for iOS version 6.1 has been made available for Apple owners to download for free. IOS 6 is already rumored to run on over 300 million devices worldwide, and with the update South African customers will get 4G browsing speeds on their iPhones.

According to the Apple website, iPhone 5 customers who are with the Vodacom network can now enjoy 4G data speeds. The reason for why MTN or Cell C have been excluded for now is unclear at the moment. The new iOS update 6.1 will run on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPad(3rd and 4th generation), iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPod touch(3rd and 4th generation).

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing had this to say, ”
iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads.”

To make use of 4G on the Vodacom network, you will need a 4G enabled Sim Card(64k or 128k). Prepaid and and top up customers cannot make use of 4G services on Vodacom, as this service is currently limited to only contract customers for now. 4G is also only available in certain areas, which can be found on the
