LG Electronics(LG) have unveiled a new addition to their smartwatch range, the LG G Watch R following their June release of one of the first wearable’s to run Android wear, the LG G Watch.
The LG G Watch R is expected to make it’s official debut at the IFA 2014, in Berlin Germany next week. It is the world’s first watch-styled device, to feature a circular Plastic OLED display and utilizes 100 percent of the watch face.
Looking at the G Watch R, the most notable thing that stands out is it’s 1.3 inch full circle P-OLED display which resembles a traditionally styled men’s watch. Casing the the G Watch R, is a stainless steel frame that comes with a variety of watch faces that are accessible with a simple touch of the display. The smartwatch strap, which measures in at 22cm is interchangeable which add’s to a flexibility of the device.
Behind the scenes, is a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, supported by 4 GB of storage space, 512 MB of RAM and a 410 mAH battery. The wearable will run on Android Wear, and has an Ingress Protection Rating of IP 67(dust and water resistant), allowing it to run for up to 30 minutes in a one meter of water. Adding to it’s functionality, LG have included a Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Compass, Barometer and PPG(HEat rate Monitor) into the G Watch R.
“What we’ve noticed in the year of the wearable is that this is a category that can’t be compared to smartphones and tablets,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Wearables are also accessories and consumers will want more than one to choose from. So we wanted to complement the modern design of the original G Watch with the classic look of the G Watch R. Customers can’t go wrong with either device.”
